Erez Law is currently investigating Ameritas Investment Corp. financial advisor Alonza Barnett Jr. (CRD# 4577695) regarding conversion of funds, breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud. Barnett has been registered with Ameritas Investment Corp. in Greensboro, North Carolina from 2010 to 2016.
In June 2017, Barnett was barred from FINRA after he failed to respond to a FINRA request for information.
Barnett has been the subject of two customer complaints in 2016 and 2017, according to his CRD report:
- February 2017. “Complainant alleges from 1/1/2001 to 5/31/2015 conversion of funds, breach of fiduciary duty and constructive fraud, and violation of the North Carolina Investment Advisors Act.” The customer is seeking $1,750,000 in damages and the case is currently pending.
- March 2016. “Claimant alleges RR failed to determine suitability and was misleading regarding the type of investment. Claimant does not feel this investment was appropriate.” The customer is seeking $50,000 in damages and the case is currently pending.
Pursuant to FINRA Rules, member firms are responsible for supervising a broker’s activities during the time the broker is registered with the firm. Therefore, Ameritas Investment Corp. may be liable for investment or other losses suffered by Barnett’s customers.
