Erez Law is investigating claims regarding Florlena Cortez (CRD #4339441, Brownsville, Texas). Cortez submitted a Letter of Acceptance, Waiver and Consent in which she was barred from association with any FINRA member in any capacity. See FINRA Case #2012031460902. Cortez was registered with Chase Investment Services Corp. from 2001 until her termination in February 2012. Cortez also has been known as Florlena Cortez Alva and Florlena Cortez Guerrero.
FINRA found between 2009 and 2010, Cortez participated in private securities transactions by soliciting four customers to invest in securities that were outside the regular course and scope of her association with Chase Investment Services. FINRA further found that Cortez failed to provide prior written notice to Chase Investment Services describing in detail the proposed transactions and her proposed role in them, including whether she had received or would receive selling compensation in connection with the transactions. As a result, FINRA determined that Cortez violated NASD Rule 3040 and FINRA Rule 2010.
Pursuant to FINRA Rules, Chase Investment Services Corp. was responsible for properly supervising Cortez’s activities during the time Cortez was registered with the firm. Therefore, Chase Investment Services Corp. may be liable for investment or other losses suffered by Cortez’s customers.
