January 2023. “Customers allege misrepresentation. Activity period 1/1/12 to 1/26/20.” The customer is seeking $400,000 in damages, and the case is currently pending. The complaint was related to real estate securities, and it took place while he was registered with LPL Financial LLC.
August 2020. “Claimants allege that they desired to purchase safe investments, but instead were recommended illiquid alternative investments. Claimants contend that those investments were unsuitable because the value of the subject investments allegedly had declined. Activity period: 7/2010 to 11/2012.” The customer sought $35,000 in damages, and the case was settled for $14,900.
Pursuant to FINRA Rules, member firms are responsible for supervising a broker’s activities during the time the broker is registered with the firm. Therefore, LPL Financial LLC may be liable for investment or other losses suffered by Steven Skipper’s customers.
